“Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man.” (Ps 112:4)
For years I would describe our family situation when our daughter was fighting cancer as living with a dark cloud over our heads. Life went on, but our days were hard, day after day. It was in that context that I read this amazing promise. As I meditated on these words, I realized the many rays of light that kept on piercing our darkness: the kind gesture of a friend, the special gift of a movie night with the family, and so many more. We saw these as rays of light in the darkness, as the answers to the prayers of so many that were praying for us.
If you are living in the darkness of pain, or grief; if anxiety or a broken relationship is weighing you down, then claim these words and live into them. Know that God is a gracious and compassionate God, righteous, but also merciful. He will bring bright rays of light that will pierce the darkness, even though, for a time, the darkness may not go away. Lean into His promises. These words are for you.
